Progression to Stage 6 is the standard pathway for students completing their secondary education. Key Update to ATAR Course Categorisation (effective from 2025):
- All HSC courses with an exam now count towards the ATAR calculation.
- The previous limit on counting only 2 units from Category B courses (such as English Studies, Mathematics Standard 1, and VET courses) has been removed.
- Students can now include more courses from these categories in their ATAR.
- This change allows students undertaking English Studies, Mathematics Standard 1 (with the optional HSC exam), and VET courses to remain eligible for an ATAR pathway to university.
- The ATAR calculation continues to be based on 2 units of English plus the best 8 other units.
